About Speaker

Christiane Thalgott was born in 1942. She started working as an interior designer before studying architecture at TU Braunschweig. She graduated in 1971 and then began working as an urban designer in Norderstedt and Kassel. From 1992 to 2007 she was director of urban development in Munich, and from 1994 she was chairwoman of the supervisory board of the Munich society for urban redevelopment.

She has also held professorships at Universities in Kiel and Munich. Christiane Thalgott was the head of the German Academy of Urban Development and Regional Planning from 2003 to 2007. She has influenced the urban development in Munich, not least through the implementation of a series of large neighborhood development projects including the Messestadt Riem, the Theresienhöhe and the Ackermannbogen. In each development area, her fundamental approach was to combine the functions of living, working and recreation.
