About the Speaker

Mat Hinds is a Founding Director of Taylor and Hinds Architects, with partner Poppy Taylor. Since its foundation in 2013, Taylor and Hinds has established a national and international reputation for a body of work that is strategic, rigorous, and experientially enriching. Mat is an alumni of the University of Tasmania, graduating with First Class Honours in 2006. During his studies he undertook an exchange in Scotland, where he was introduced to then early career architects Adam Caruso, Jonathan Sergison and Jonathan Woolf. In practice with Poppy Taylor, Mat has authored a series of significant works of Tasmanian Architecture, to national and international acclaim. Taylor and Hinds has been nominated twice for the Royal Academy Dorfman Award, and was nominated by an esteemed panel of architects, including Steven Holl, Mario Botta and Sean Godsell, in 2020 for the prestigious Swiss Architectural Prize. In 2021, the regarded Italian periodical DOMUS named Taylor and Hinds as one of the top architecture practices, worldwide. Mat has lectured extensively about the methodology and work of his practice.
