The State Library of New South Wales Auditorium is a thoughtfully designed space that blends modern functionality with the library’s historic architecture. The auditorium provides an intimate yet dynamic setting for lectures and events with its clean lines, warm materials, which create a sophisticated atmosphere that complements the library’s cultural and educational mission.

About the Speakers

No longer content with designing buildings and places through practice, Abbie Galvin leapt with passion and commitment into the space where some of the most formative decisions about our cities and suburbs are made – state government. Using her skills and knowledge from 30 years of leadership in architectural practice, Abbie now advocates for and shapes our public places and spaces as Government Architect NSW, a role that has been in effect for over 200 years.  Included in Abbie and her team’s work at GANSW is implementation of NSW’s first sustainable building policy for non-residential buildings, development of the Pattern Book for Housing and leadership of the State Design Review Panel. Abbie is a Life Fellow of the AIA, a graduate of the AICD, received the Marion Mahoney Griffin Prize for a distinctive body of work in Architecture and was recently awarded the AIA Leadership in Sustainability Prize. www.planning.nsw.gov.au/government-architect-nsw

Emma Williamson is the Government Architect of Western Australia. She graduated from Curtin University in 1995 with First Class Honors and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects. Prior to her appointment as Government Architect Emma co-founded two practices; CODA Studio and the Fulcrum Agency. Both practices were highly awarded across diverse categories from Urban Design to Education, Small Projects and Social Impact. In 2023 Emma was awarded the RAIA Paula Whitman Leadership in Gender Equity Prize. She is an Adjunct Professor at Monash University and member of the Industry Advisory Board for the School of Architecture at the University of Technology Sydney. www.emmawilliamson.com.au

John Choi is founding partner of Chrofi, a dynamic architectural practice that operates across a wide portfolio from houses to cities. Under his leadership, the firm has consistently championed a holistic, place-based approach to design. John’s expertise lies in seamlessly integrating macro and micro perspectives, addressing both physical and non-physical factors to create meaningful, transformative places. He is deeply passionate about how design can expand the way we live, work and play. From 2010 to 2018, John served as an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the University of Sydney. He is currently a member of the NSW State Design Review Panel and a regular contributor to industry forums and public discussions. www.chrofi.com
