About the Speaker

No longer content with designing buildings and places through practice, Abbie Galvin leapt with passion and commitment into the space where some of the most formative decisions about our cities and suburbs are made – state government. Using her skills and knowledge from 30 years of leadership in architectural practice, Abbie now advocates for and shapes our public places and spaces as Government Architect NSW, a role that has been in effect for over 200 years.  Included in Abbie and her team’s work at GANSW is implementation of NSW’s first sustainable building policy for non-residential buildings, development of the Pattern Book for Housing and leadership of the State Design Review Panel. Abbie is a Life Fellow of the AIA, a graduate of the AICD, received the Marion Mahoney Griffin Prize for a distinctive body of work in Architecture and was recently awarded the AIA Leadership in Sustainability Prize. www.planning.nsw.gov.au/government-architect-nsw
