On Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Fundación Giner de los Ríos, AnA will bring together two of the most renowned Madrid-based architects and one special guest from Portugal, who will talk about their personal experiences and the influences that impacted them as architects in the most important creative periods in their lives:

“Architects, not Architecture”, or “AnA”, gives guests the chance to get to know world-renowned architects on a more personal level as there is only one golden rule: speakers are not allowed to talk about their architectural projects. This has allowed audiences around the globe to enjoy unique personal content since the format was introduced in 2015.

Fundacion Giner de los Rios is the restored and expanded foundation headquarters in Madrid, Spain. The interior courtyard garden is shaped by the surrounding volumes, with the interior spaces inwardly oriented to face the garden. The complex aims to weave the relationship of people with the use of materiality and conservation to create a space that honours the institution’s legacy, while redefining contemporary sensibility.
About the Speakers

Eduardo Souto de Moura (Oporto, 1952) uno de los más brillantes y reconocidos de su generación. Recibió el Premio Pritzker en 2011. Eduardo Souto de Moura es parte del núcleo de profesionales de la llamada “Escuela de Porto”, junto a Fernando Távora y Siza Vieira, y que fue autorizada en 1980 por la Facultad de Bellas Artes Oporto. Entre 1974 y 1979 trabajó con Álvaro Siza Vieira y ha estado enseñando algunas de las escuelas más respetadas de la arquitectura desde principios de 1980, inicialmente en la Facultad de Arquitectura de Oporto, y luego en París-Belleville, Harvard, Dublín, Zurich y Lausana.
Obras célebres y significativas de su filosofía proyectual son el pabellón del conocimiento de los mares de la Expo 1998 de Lisboa y el portugués de la Expo 2000 de Hannover; la transformación del edificio de la aduana en Museo de los transportes y de las comunicaciones y la Casa del cine, ambos en Oporto, concluidos en 2002; el estadio de Braga (2004), premiado con el Chicago Athenaeum International Architecture Award en 2006; el Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Bragança (2008). También la estación de metro (2005) y el complejo de las 2 torres de oficinas Burgo Tower (2007) en Oporto; la Casa das historias en Cascais (2009), dedicada a la artista portuguesa Paula Rego; los centros culturales en Sabrosa (2011) y Viana do Castelo (2013). www.pritzkerprize.com/biography-eduardo-souto-de-moura
Emilio Tuñón (Madrid, 1958) es catedrático de Universidad y coordinador del Máster en Arquitectura. En 1992 funda, con Luis M. Mansilla (1959-2012), Mansilla + Tuñón Arquitectos, comprometidos en la confrontación de la práctica teórica y académica con la actividad de diseño y construcción. Sus obras más representativas son: el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Helga de Alvear 2021, la casa de piedrta en Cáceres 2019, el Gastropabellón en Zurich 2017, el Museo de las Colecciones Reales de Madrid 2016, el Relaix Chateaux Atrio en Cáceres 2012, el MUSAC de León 2007, el Centro Documental “El Águila” de Madrid 2003, el Auditorio de León 2003, el Museo de Castellón 2000 y el Museo de Zamora 1996.
El trabajo de Emilio Tuñón ha sido reconocido, entre otros galardones, con los siguientes premios: Premio Nacional de Arquitectura, Premio de Arquitectura Nueva Bauhaus del cscae, Medalla de oro al Mérito de las Bellas Artes, Premio Mies van der Rohe, Premio de Arquitectura de la Unión Europea, RIBA International Fellowship y Premio de Arquitectura Española, entre muchos otros. www.emiliotunon.com
Fuensanta Nieto es Arquitecta titulada por la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (ETSAM) y Master of Science in Building Design por la Graduate School of Architecture and Planning (GSAPP), Universidad de Columbia de Nueva York (USA). Hasta 2021 fue profesora de proyectos en la Escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad Europea de Madrid. Fuensanta Nieto imparte conferencias sobre arquitectura y participa en jurados y simposios en diversas instituciones de todo el mundo. Desde 1986 a 1991 fue co-directora de la revista ARQUITECTURA, editada por del Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid.
Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos fue fundado en 1985 por Enrique Sobejano y Fuensanta Nieto, y tiene oficinas en Madrid y en Berlín. Han recibido el Premio Nacional de Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales del Ministerio de Cultura (2007), el Premio Nike de la BDA (Bund Deutscher Architekten) (2010), el Premio Aga Khan de Arquitectura (2010), el Premio Piranesi Prix de Rome (2011), el Premio Museo Europeo del Año (2012), el Premio Hannes Meyer (2012), Miembros Honorarios del American Institute of Architects (AIA), la Medalla Alvar Aalto (2015) y la Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes en 2017. www.nietosobejano.com
