What is AnA?

The personalities behind the big names.

Architects, not Architecture aims to bring to the stage what we normally don’t see. We invite three well-known architects, who instead of talking about their award winning international projects, are asked to talk about themselves. They speak about their path, their influences and experiences, and dive deeper into their intellectual biography. This makes possible a better understanding of their work, without them even mentioning it.

In 2015, AnA was founded in Hamburg by Fermín Tribaldos and Irene Osei-Poku without even considering the idea of expanding to other cities. The idea: To shed light on the enormous influences in the practice of architecture that are normally left in the shadows, was a success. The inspirational stories that were shared and the amount of positive feedback was astonishing. The talks, the atmosphere, the networking, everything was positive! What could we do besides push the idea even further and take it to new cities and other countries. So, we did!

After a successful series over the last four years and eleven events alone in 2019, we’ve already held 26 events with over 8.000 attendees! This year, AnA will take place in five cities around Germany and in the European metropoles of Oslo, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Antwerp, London and Rotterdam. While AnA continues to expand its borders, it still keeps its utterly personal and “unusual” core topic: the architects themselves.
